When we talk about animals we usually think of them as primitive creatures who are in the lower rung of life and lack “human virtues”. Is it really so? Let us see…
Within ten yards of your presence, a dog starts wagging its tail and if you stop for a moment and pat it on the forehead, it will almost jump out of it’s skin to show how much it loves you. If you own a dog, take care of it and you get to experience it’s loyalty. Something hard to come by in “human beings”.
Simply lying, sitting or standing in a shed, a cow never complains or whines about anything as long as she gets the grass to eat and water to drink. Being simply at peace and is a natural quality of a cow. Yet another quality that most of us are devoid of.
Have you heard about a Quokka. They are small marsupial animals, size of a cat with a rat’s tail. I’ve never seen one in person but I’d love to see. They are said to be the most joyful animals on the face of the earth. Always ready to extend their joy.
These animal have been found in selfies with people. Extremely friendly creatures, they are. Joy……Yet another quality hard to see in most humans.
Leave the dogs and cows and the wierd named animal that I came across over the internet just today aside. Let us talk about ourselves – Humans. Peak of evolution on earth.
Despise seems to be a hobby. People despise their job, waking up in the morning, their boss, their spouse, their cantankerous neighbour and to my surprise, even life. Misery is a natural consequence to such a life. Just what do you love and what can you? Seeking a possibility in such a person seems like grasping at straws.
Jealousy is a secondary ability. Life is a video game in which you are the main character and jealousy comes as your secondary ability. Jealousy comes even more naturally to a person than a smile. Imagine, your friend who works at the same place as you got a promotion and now he is one post ahead of you. You do congratulate him/her, but deep down you know how you feel. Someone’s happiness, rather than being an opportunity of more happiness, becomes the cause of someone else’s envy.
The primary weapon. While most of the games give you a sword or a gun to fight with. Somehow in the game of life people pick their ego as their primary weapon. Using it to devour the happiness and contentment of the other. Suppressing others under their own massive pride. Insulting one person amuses the other. Somehow, satisfying one’s ego has become more appealing and important than almost anything else.
Somehow, animals have always been showing a better outlook towards life. Yet they are considered lower than us.
Somewhere, during evolution along with the tail humans lost their self contentment. Yet they are at the highest level. Is this what it means to be at the peak of evolution?
If this is true, if the word animal really means being in a lower rung of existence or lacking “virtues” . Then, who is the real animal – them or us ?
